Adjusting a Photo for Use in Premiere

Objective:

This job aid will describe how to adjust the size of a still photo and to position the photo for use in Premiere.

Step one: Open a project

Open a new project in Premiere and import a photo.

Step two: Place the photo on the timeline

Place the photo on the timeline and select it by clicking on it. The timeline marker must be over the photo for it to appear in the display window. When you compare the photo in the Premiere display window (below) to the full photo above, you will notice that only a portion of the photo is viewable in the display window.

Step three: Resize the photo

In order to view the entire photo in the display window, you must re-size it using the controls in the Effects Controls panel. Click the Effects Controls tab and then click the triangle to the left of the Motion tag. Next, click the triangle to the left of the Scale tag.

Step four: Click Motions

When you click on the triangle to the left of the Scale tag, the slider control that allows you to resize the photo is accessible. Next, click on the Motion tag. This displays a thin gray line around the photo to indicate the edges. It also places a small circle with an X in it to indicate the center of the photo.

Step five: Position your photo

Next, move the slider control to resize the photo. Then click on the photo and drag it to position it to your liking.
