Sharing Files

Objective:

This job aid will show you how to create a shared folder.

Step one: Open "Documents and Settings"

Open the C drive and open the "Documents and Settings" of "My Documents" folder (They may be labelled differently, depending upon how many users have log-ins on your computer).

Step two: Create a new folder

Create a new folder within “My Documents” and name it “Shared Stuff” (or whatever you want).

Step three: Open "Properties" of a folder

Right click on the newly created “Shared Stuff” folder and select the “Sharing and Security” menu item. A “Properties” menu will appear.

Step four: Make your folder sharable

The "Shared Stuff Properties" box should appear (yours may be named differently, depending upon what you named your folder). Click the "Share this folder on the network" box. You'll then be given the option of whether or not you want to allow others to change the file (if you only want them able to read the information, leave "allow network users to change my files" box unchecked).

Your folder should look something like this now...

Step five: Done

This folder is now available to other computers on your network.
