Developing Online Surveys Using Survey Monkey

Objective:

This job aid will show you how to design an online survey, collect responses and analyze the data.

 
 
Step one: Open Survey Monkey
 

Using any standard web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.), open Survey Monkey by typing www.surveymonkey.com into the address bar and log in.

 
Step two: Create a new survey
 

1. Click New Survey
2. Check From Scratch
3. Click Next

 
 
 
Step three: Choose a theme (color palette)
 
  1. Click on the v arrow next to Theme for the color of the complete survey
  2. Theme Editor will open up, choose your color, the one shown is blue metal
  3. Click Add
 
 
 

Step four: Edit the survey title

 
Click on the Edit Title button beside the Untitled Survey label.

Put the survey title in the textbox under the label “Enter the title of your survey.” You can leave the other fields the same or change to your own personal interest to distinguish previous, next, done, and for exiting the survey.

Click on the Update button across from the Edit Survey Titles label.

 
 
 

Step five: Add a question to the survey

 

Click on the Add Questions button to add questions in the survey.
Click on the type of questions link to view different question types. It will open a pop up window with different question types.

Open Ended - Essay
 
 
 

Step six: Finalize the questionnaire

 

Click on the Preview button to view the interface.

Next click on to the My Survey Tab.

 

Step seven: Collect the data

 

Click on the Collect icon across from the “test survey”. This will let you select the collection method.

 
 
Step eight: Select a way to collect your data
 

Creating a link for a web page is the most frequently used, anonymous way of collecting data.

 
 
 

Step nine: Copy the web page link

 

Copy the web page link and paste it into an e-mail you send out to your survey participants. Click on Done.

 
 
 

Step ten: Open the survey

 

Click on the box to open the survey so the participants can participate in the survey.

 
 
 
Step eleven: Analyze the data
 

After conducting the survey click on the Analyze button to analyze the survey result.
