Capturing Video from a Digital Camera into Ulead

Objective:

This job aid demonstrates how to capture video into Ulead from a digital camera

Step one: Connect the camera and the computer

Connect the camera to the computer and turn it on. (See Job Aid – Connecting Camera)

Step two: Open Ulead

The start screen will look like this:

Notice the three buttons on the upper left. Click on New Project. This will bring up the following screen:

Select the bottom template – AVI 320x240, 24 fps, Cinepak. This is the file type, display size, frame rate, and compression method. Click OK. You will then be taken to the Capture screen.

Step three: Capture Screen

If your camera is hooked up properly, you should already (before clicking capture) be seeing what the camera sees in the preview screen.
Notice the camera icon in the upper left hand corner. Clicking on it will start the capture of the video (video is being transferred to the computer). To stop capturing video, click the camera icon again or press escape.

Step four: Saving Your Project

After you have stopped capturing the video, Ulead will put a clip of the video on the right side of the preview screen. To save what you have done, click on Finish and select Save Project (you will find this selection on the left of the preview screen).
