Downloading, Installing, & Using WinZip
|
Objective: This job aid will show you how to download, install and use WinZip (a program to compress and decompress large files to make them more manageable). |
| |
| |
| Step one: Download and install WinZip |
| |
Go to the WinZip web page (www.winzip.com). Click on the icon/link to download WinZip for your operating system. When
prompted, indicate that you want to Save this file to disk, and specify a location. Usually, the desktop in Windows 95/98 is a good place to save the file. |
| |
| |
| Step two: Prepare to install the program |
| |
Once it has completed downloading, exit your web browser, locate the file(named winzip95.exe or something equivalent), and double click on it. |
| |
| |
| Step three: Install the program |
| |
Accept the default installation options as they are presented to you. NOTE: If you choose the Winzip Wizard interface option, the program will help you zip and unzip files through its own wizard. If you choose the Classic interface, you will need to do more on your own. |
| |
| |
Step four: Zip up a set of files using WinZip (using the Classic interface)
|
| |
Open winzip (if it is not already open),
click on the "I Agree" button when it apears.
Create a new archive by clicking on New. Name the new archive using the 8.3 convention (no more than 8 characters for the file name—WinZip will automatically append the "zip" extension). Make sure to use a name you will recognize as the files you want to upload, and make sure it is somewhere you can find it (e.g., in the same directory as the files you want to zip up, on the desktop, or….?)
Browse to where your course files (the ones you want to upload) are and select them (hold down the control key while clicking on each file to select multiple files).
Click the "Add" button after you have selected all the files. WinZip will automatically add the selected files to your archive and compress them.
After noting again the location of your archive, Exit Winzip. |
