Using Yahoo Messenger

Objective:
This job aid will show you how to use Yahoo Messenger to communicate with anybody who also has a yahoo ID.
 
 
Step one: Get a yahoo account
 

Click on GET A NEW YAHOO ID
 
 

Note:

Your Yahoo mail ID and Yahoo Messenger ID are the same. Now login to Messenger using your Yahoo ID if you have one, otherwise get your own ID.

Remember, you can chat using Yahoo Messenger with only those friends who also have a yahoo ID.

 
 
Step two: Add your contacts
 

Once you have logged in, you can add all your friends/contacts by:

a. clicking on the + (plus sign)
 
 

or by:

a. Clicking on the CONTACT menu

b. Click on ADD CONTACT
 
 
 
Step three: Chat
 

a. Click on their name on the messenger screen then

b. Click on the “” box
 
 

c. Type your message into the box then

d. Click on the SEND button.
 
 
 

Step four: VIEW WEBCAM - a. If you want to view the person you are talking to
 

a. Click on the webcam button
 
 
 

Step five: VIEW WEBCAM - b. If you want to see how you look to others on a webcam
 
b. Click on ACTIONS and

c. Click on VIEW WEBCAM
 
 
 
Step six: SEND A FILE - If you want to send a file to the person you’re chatting with
 

a. Click on send file icon, and

b. Select the file that you want to send.
 
 
 

Step seven: SHARE PHOTOS - If you want to share pictures while you are chatting

 

c. Click on photos icon.

 

Note: This is an invitation that you are sending to the person. Once the invitation is accepted you can share
 
 

d. Click on ADD PHOTOS to start sharing pictures and then select the file.

 
 
 
Step eight: Saving Messages

 

a. Click on MESSENGER on the Messenger welcome screen. And then

b. Click on PREFERENCES.
 
 

c. Click on ARCHIVE

d. Click on the option that you prefer.

  • Yes, save all my messages
  • Yes, save all my messages, but clear them each time I sign out.
  • No, do not save any of my messages
e. Click OK
 
 
 
Step nine: LOG OUT OF YAHOO! MESSENGER - Always make sure to log out of yahoo! Messenger.
 

To sign out,

a. Click on MESSENGER and

b. Click on SIGN OUT
