Open Source Alternatives to Commercial Software

Hi again from OLLieville.  It's been a while, hasn't it?  The OLLies have been busily training on new equipment and working to put together some new materials for all of you out there.

Can Online Role-Play Improve Students’ Writing?

It’s OLLie again, wishing a big “Hello!” to all of you wonderful readers out there in Online Land.  Welcome again to the OLLieBlog.
 
Recently, I’ve been reintroducing myself to some old (to me) websites that encourage online role/story play along with more scholarly writing.  In the reintroduction, I've noticed how many members of both sites are students and wondered if being a part of such a site would help build a student’s ability and confidence in his or her writing.

I don’t know about you, but I’m always trying to find new ways to save time and do things more efficiently and I ooh and ahh over cheap cool tools that will assist me--especially in this season of resolutions and all that jazz.  That said, I’m a LifeHacker junkie. 
 

Research Summaries

Often faculty members are not aware of the most cutting edge or up-to-date educational technology trends that exist and how these tools can be used in the classroom. The purpose of these Research Summaries is to provide comprehensive reviews of research articles on these technologies and pedagogies. These summaries are based on empirical research using technology to enhance instruction.


Pedagogy

For online and distance education, there are many pedagogical questions and debates that arise. Is the pedagogy of classroom learning the same as distance? If not, how are they different? What are the extent of the differences? We hope to use this area as a collection/repository area of the various thoughts on the subject, as found on the web.

Programs

The OLL presents a number of programs covering a wide range of topics related to online learning, including workshops and seminars each semester, to help instructors take their courses to the web. Whether its training in software tools or coaching in pedagogy, we try our best to bring our clients what they need. As our motto states, "We're here to help."

 

Weekly OLL Workshops (WOW!) --weekly two-hour workshops on a variety of software and pedagogy topics. Classes are held on Thursday's 1-3pm and Friday's 4-6pm.
